Confirmation
7th - 9th Grade
Although the term “Confirmation” is a later development, the purpose behind it dates back to ancient Israel. In Deuteronomy 6, God tells His people to diligently teach His laws to the next generation of Israelites. The Apostle Paul admonished his own protégé, Timothy, to teach the truths of the gospel to the next generation of Believers. And in the Early Church, new Believers were required to participate in a period of rigorous instruction called “The Catechumenate” before they were fully integrated into the life of the Church.
Building on these ancient traditions, Confirmation studies are a unique opportunity for 7th and 8th graders to explore the origins, basic teachings, history, and personal implications of Christianity. For students who have already made a personal commitment to Jesus, it is a chance to grow in faith. For students who have not made a commitment, it’s a chance to explore whether or not they would like to follow Christ themselves.
Over the two years of Confirmation, students explore Old Testament history and teaching, the life of Jesus and the early Church, Church history, and the unique characteristics of the Evangelical Covenant Church. They participate in the broader life of the church through service opportunities and Sunday worship. Second year students also complete a research project which they develop in consultation with the pastor.
Youth Group
7th - 12th Grade | Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m
Salem’s youth group for Junior High, Middle School, and High School students meets Wednesday evenings from September through May. Students and their families are invited to come for supper starting at 5:45. Then, at 6:30, we meet for fun, study, and recreation. We usually wrap up at 8 PM. Periodically during the year, we also do off-site fun and service events like a trip to the Escape Room, packing Christmas presents for Operation Christmas Child, MUUUUCE (an annual high-energy event for Junior High and Middle School students with other Covenant churches), and CHIC (a large High School student gathering every three years).
Covenant Women
Adult Ministry
What do we do?
1. Christian fellowship with women
-
Opportunity to nurture, support and mentor the women of our church, at every age
2. Stewardship through service and monetary giving, for our church, our community and our
national organization.
-
Locally, our funds go to provide many items for our church, provide food service for
church events, and provide support for those in need in our community. As well as for those
who are sharing Christ in various mission opportunities.
-
We are a part of the Northwest Conference and funds go to support the leadership of the
conference, and our Special Interest Missionary. This year, she is Erika Clauson, who is
serving in Mexico in Community Development, Evangelism and Outreach.
-
The National Women's Ministries organization has various projects that we support
through our giving, including: AVA (Advocacy for Victims of Abuse), which is a ministry
that informs, educates, and raises awareness about abuse in congregations and
communities. This great program is active in five nations now! "Embrace the Change"
provides economic empowerment of women in the Congo.
Other Missions
-
Lake Beauty Women's Retreat: every fall, many of us enjoy a relaxing, renewing weekend at
Lake Beauty Bible Camp in Long Prairie, MN. We gather with other women from the district, renewing old friendships! The retreat is held in September. Plan to get away for this great weekend of fun and fellowship! -
The Hospitality Committee arranges or makes meals for those who are sick or afflicted in some way that doesn't allow them much time to prepare their own meals for themselves or their families. We also take meals to any family that has had a new addition in an effort to help them as they make their transition to having a new family member. In contrast, we also try to help in a time of grief for any family that has suffered a loss.
