Darlene Holmgren

Darlene Ardyce Holmgren was born at home in Waseca on October 8, 1939, to Arthur Walter and Myrtle Clara (Redeske) Leslie. She was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Otisco, and confirmed her faith at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. She grew up in Waseca where she attended country school before graduating from Waseca High School with the Class of 1957. She continued her education in Minneapolis where she studied to be a secretary. On May 7, 1960, Darlene was united in marriage to Douglas Holmgren at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca, where they continued to live.  In 1962, Darlene and Doug moved to Pennock where they made their home. Darlene started working for Willmar Municipal Utilities until her first child was born. To this union four children were born: Selina, Wanda, Steven and Duane. She then helped Doug on the farm, tending to the chickens, calves and horses, among many other things. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, and gardening. Darlene was also very involved with her church women’s group, ARC, home extension group and she was a 4-H Leader. She was a loving wife, mom, grandma and friend.
