Edmond Broberg

04/21/1921 - 4/3/2016

Edmond Emmer Clarence Broberg was born on April 21, 1921, in Pillsbury Township, near Kerkhoven, the son of William G. and Dina (Hultgren) Broberg. When Edmond was four years old, his mother, Dina, passed away and his aunt, Mathilda Broberg, moved into their home and helped raised the children. He attended District 18 through the 8th grade and from that time on he farmed with his father and brother, Verne Broberg.

On January 4, 1946, he married the girl of his dreams, Maybelle Irene Regina Ortenblad, at Buffalo Lake Covenant Church, rural Murdock. They farmed his family’s homestead until his retirement in 1995. He continued to help his sons with farming until two years ago.

He was baptized, confirmed and was a lifetime member of Salem Covenant Church. During those years, he served as church treasurer, financial secretary, trustee, deacon, Christian Education Committee Member, and sang in the choir for 60 years. Edmond was active in the community and served as a 4-H Club leader. He served as the Chairman of the Shipping Association, and was on the board of the Kerkhoven Creamery Board, Kerkhoven School Board, PTA, Farmers Elevator Board and the Firetruck Board of Pillsbury Township.

He will be remembered for his deep kindness and caring spirit for all. He loved playing cards and games, visiting with his friends, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, singing and having coffee with his buddies at Sherrie’s Café in Kerkhoven. He loved holidays and get-togethers. His motto was “do the best you can.”
