Ralph Halverson

07/29/1939 - 06/23/2023
Veteran

Ralph Wallace Halverson was born July 29, 1939, to Wallace and Vivian (Anderson) Halverson on the family farm north of Kerkhoven. He was baptized and later confirmed at Salem Covenant Church. Growing up on the family farm Ralph learned about hard work at an early age, helping with milking cows, and harvesting. He attended school in Kerkhoven and graduated in 1957. After his schooling Ralph worked for Nyquist Trucking where he would haul livestock. He also worked at the Kerkhoven Farmers Elevator where he would deliver feed to Turkey farms. On August 6, 1960, Ralph was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Jean Spaanem at Salem Covenant Church. To this union three daughters were born: Kari, Susan and Beth. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1962 and was active until 1968. Ralph and Jean purchased a farm north of Kerkhoven with 80 acres and farmed it until they purchased the family farm from Ralph’s parents in 1977. He was active at Salem Covenant Church and served as an usher, trustee, treasurer and was on the cemetery board and the Pillsbury Township Board for several years. Ralph enjoyed fishing, especially at Lake Chippewa in Brandon. He also enjoyed camping at Sibley State Park and Games Lake and wintering in Edinburg, TX, with Jean. Ralph was a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend who blessed us with a good sense of humor.
